Air Purifier Austin, TX

Homeowners across Texas are now more interested and concerned than ever about the indoor air quality of their homes. However, not all homeowners understand how to achieve the best possible air quality in their indoor space; they often don’t know what means exist for improving the indoor air quality. Two of the best options for improving indoor air quality are air purifiers and air scrubbers.

Air purifiers and air scrubbers are both air cleaners. They both can be used as components of your home HVAC system to remove dust and debris, bacterial and viral microbes, and other harmful particulate matter from the air in your home. While both of these mechanisms can work as part of a home air conditioning system to clean the air in your home, each is different in the way they carry out this task; they use two different methods to improve indoor air quality. This is part one of a two-part discussion about these two helpful devices, to help you learn more about your options for improving your home’s indoor air quality.

WHAT IS AN AIR PURIFIER?

An air purifier is a device that cleans the air in one of two main ways. One type can purify the air in your home using a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter system. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the highly effective HEPA filtration system helps to remove up to 99.97% of common air contaminants found in homes including dust, pollen, and pet dander. They can also effectively remove mold spores, viruses and bacteria, and particulates from smoke.

A second type of air purifier uses ionization. Ionizing air purifiers don’t use a fiber filter to trap pollutants; instead, they release negatively charged ions into the air to attract positively charged ions of particulates. Then the ions bind together, making them too heavy to remain airborne; this means these particulates are no longer easily inhaled. Most modern ionizing air purifiers attract these particulates and collect them on internal electrostatic metal plates that you can wash and then reuse.

Air purifiers are a great choice for improving the indoor air quality of your home. They are cost-effective and can be added easily to your existing HVAC system to purifier the air throughout your home. (Note: air purifiers are available as portable devices that can be used to clean the air in individual rooms/small areas of your home if you have not had a central air conditioning system installed yet.)

Air purifiers are an effective tool to include as part of your home HVAC system. But air scrubbers might better suit your needs. In part two of this discussion about improving your home’s indoor air quality, the focus will be on air scrubbers and how they work.
